David is a new addition to the Centaurs this season. He has come out of cricket retirement after a 15+ year hiatus from the HKCA Leagues after previously representing the Kowloon Cricket Club in the late eighties and early nineties. David was a Oxford Blue and represented Oxford University in 13 first-class games from 1975 to 1978. He was the first-choice spinner with his ability to take wickets yet still remaining economical with his tidy left arm orthodox bowling. In his first-class career he took 18 wickets at 30.5 runs at an economy rate of 2.69 which included the prize scalp of Sir Ian Botham. In 1990-91, David had a stellar season with the KCC Infidels scoring 591 runs at 45.46 opening the batting including 111 vs the Indian Recreational Club and took 50+ wickets including 7-33 against the HKCC Optimists. This resulted in David being called up to the Hong Kong National Squad for the 1990 ICC Trophy in the Netherlands. David had a magnificent tournament, finishing as the highest wicket-taker for Hong Kong with 8 wickets at 16.87 runs in 3 matches. David joined the Centaurs this season and showed us why he still is such a good all-round cricketer. With the bat, as with most lefties, he looks very stylish and composed at the crease with a good traditional technique. With the ball, he is as accurate as anyone getting the ball to drift in on a good length and likes to give it some flight. In the game against the HKCC Witheres, even one of the most destructive batsman in the HK domestic scene Phil Pemberton struggled against David. However there is still 1 department left in his all-round arsenal. David has become our permanent slipper and has taken 6 catches this season and dropped none! Most of those were exceptional catches that everyone else in the team probably wouldn't of caught. This included a one handed blinder to remove KCC coach Peter Wooden (who has scored 7 100's and 11 50's this season) on 82. David's reflexes are unmatched by anyone else in the team in the slip cordon.
